Fire Magic is an Elementalist secondary attribute, meaning that any character with Elementalist as their primary or secondary profession can put points into this attribute.

[edit] Guild Wars description

"No inherent effect. Many Elementalist skills, especially spells that burn your foes or deal fire damage in large areas, become more effective with higher Fire Magic."

[edit] General description

Many Elementalists choose Fire Magic for its ability to inflict massive amounts of damage to numerous foes. It is also the first school of magic that Elementalists are introduced to: many of the effective Air Magic and Water Magic spells do not appear until more than half way through the campaign.

The true nature of fire magic is in its ability to do extreme amounts of area of effect fire damage for a very small amount of energy.

Fire Magic is more limited due to its purely damage central focus, most skills related to the attribute, except a few such as Fire Attunement, serves a purely offensive role. Although when used correctly can indirectly control aggro in PvE and PvP; this is usually achieved by AoE damage, with spells such as Fire Storm, Lava Font, and Searing Heat in which the caster can create a zone of destruction in which foes are forced to scatter away or suffer major damage and has a similar but short lived effect to warding. The scatter effect can also cause melee to lose aggro on the tank in PvE, thus but be used wisely against high level enermies.

All disruptive spells in fire are in the form of AoE knock downs, they are limited to two spells: Meteor and Meteor Shower, the usage of both are greatly improved with faster casting times, consider using with glyph of sacrifice and echo for a devastating AoE disruption and damage.

The most basic Fire Magic spells are projectiles that simply do direct fire damage to one or more targets: Flare, Fireball, These spells have the advantage of consistently delivering relatively small amount of fire damage very quickly, or in a area.

Fire has the most Point Blank Area of Effect (PBAoE) spells in the game such as Inferno, and Flame Burst, these spells are very useful because of the relatively high damage, and quick casting times. But more importantly they do not require a casting target, allowing you to target enemies you cannot usually attack with normal spells, or cast durations spells such as Lava Front, and Bed of Coals in anticipation of a melee attack.

One particular use of Flame Burst is to provide a spell target for Glyph of Lesser energy under Fire attunement allowing the caster to gain extra energy back when resting.

Fire Magic has many skills that set fire to the target: Immolate, Rodgort's Invocation and Mind Burn just to name a few, they are useful against foes with high armor rating or for consistent pressure damage. Mark of Rodgort is a favourite spell amongst many fire users to causes a group of foes to ignite whenever they are struck with any fire damage allowing for very high consistent damage.

Although one would not normally associate fire with spike damage, there are several spells which can be used to setup spikes; Phoenix: basically a combination of Inferno and Fireball it can be used at point blank range to deal almost fatal damage to a small area, Incendiary Bonds: allows to the user to prepare a spike much like Lightning Surge, but notice this spell has an area of effect unlike the lightning elite spell. Savannah Heat, cooked up by some twisted mage with too much time on his hands, this spell encapsulates the wide Area of Effect spike, searing every thing in a large area for about 300 damage in 5 seconds, when combined with Meteor proves to be utterly devastating to groups casters.

While other schools of Elemental magic offer more intricate ways to destroy your enemies, such as blinding them, weakening them and slowing them, Fire Magic relies on outright damage. An Elementalist using Fire Magic will find that it is easy to run out of energy very quickly, with 25-energy spells like Meteor Shower and Rodgort's Invocation. In addition, many of the spells cast quickly and cause exhaustion. This means the Fire Mage can be his or her own worst enemy, quickly running out of energy and being reduced to normal attacks. However, using skills such as Ether Prodigy or the combo of Elemental Attunement and Fire Attunement (not Ether Prodigy and Elemental Attunement together because they are elites) can solve energy loss problems.
