A hex is "a spell that causes a negative effect for a period of time (e.g., movement/attack speed reduction, Health or Energy degeneration)."

Essentially, hexes are the opposite of enchantments. Some hexes can reduce an enemy's armor, their energy regeneration, or their movement speed; other hexes will inflict damage on enemies when they take certain actions, such as Empathy which damages those who attack.

In general, a hex takes effect before any enchantments or spells cast take effect.

[edit] Professions

Hexes are available to the following professions:

[edit] Equipment

Although hexes normally hinder performance or damage you, with the right equipment you can take advantage of being hexed.

  • The suffix Of Valor give bonus health while hexed.
  • Having a "Don't Fear the Reaper" inscription give bonus attack damage while hexed.
  • The "I am Sorrow" inscriptions give bonus energy while hexed.
  • Equipping a "Be Just and Fear Not" inscription give bonus armor while hexed.
  • The "Nothing to Fear" inscriptions give physical damage reduction while hexed.

Also, Lieutenant's insignia reduce hex duration.

[edit] Appearance

When a creature is hexed, there is an animation that goes with the hex as well as a black ring that floats at the affected creatures torso, with a small icon of the profession the hex belongs to rotating around it.

You can also look at a targets health bar to see if the target is hexed or not, a purple downward pointing arrow will be at the left of the health bar, some hexes may also change the appearance of the health bar. Degeneration hexes, such as Conjure Phantasm and Shrinking Armor, turn the entire health bar purple.

If you become hexed, you can view which hex it is in the effects monitor, by default this is in the upper left hand corner of your screen, it will be an icon of the skill with a purple-ish border.
